Gode Woreda, in Shabele zone, experiences recurrent droughts, water shortages, human and livestock diseases, food insecurity, and other related crisis. Providentially, the location of the woreda makes it one of the areas endowed with land and water (Shabelle river) irrigation potential, but these resources haven’t been utilized well due to the low capacity of the communities and limited external support.
Realizing this problem, a solar-powered irrigation system was implemented in Kayane kebele of Gode woreda, and 80 families are now directly benefiting from this efficient and reliable irrigation system for field crop production, providing irrigation to 40 hectares of land.
The main objective is to strengthen resilience and improve the living condition of the local agro-pastoral community.
